EDUCATION

We feel a passion to share our knowledge of dry stone with anyone who wants to know more. Not only do we wish to share our knowledge, but we also wish to continue to learn. Every project and person we are involved with, is an opportunity to learn. You never know where the next nugget of information will arise from!

WORKSHOPS

Tom and his team have spent many years creating many wonderful and unique structures that it felt only right to offer the answers to the many questions that we have received over the years, in the form of running dry stone workshops. Join us for one of our workshops that we run. Whether you would like to learn how to repair a wall of your own or you fancy trying your hand at creating you very own bespoke firepit, we can assist you.

Each workshop is tailored to your desires. We will show examples of our work, introduce you to the history of dry stone walling… perhaps one of the oldest construction techniques know to humankind. We will explain the various types of hammers used and other tools that can be utilized. Tom still has his very first hammer he used at the tender age of 10, a farriers hammer to build a wall on a precipice… that is a story for another occasion. We will show you the different types of stone you can use, their benefits and disadvantages, yes , not all stone is suitable for dry stone walling. You will be shown the techniques and guidelines to create your own wall or maybe a firepit, a stile or even a tree, possibly a BBQ. A natural pond or water feature. You may wish to create your own bee bole or install a dry laid terrace, a area of cobbles or just maybe try your hand at creating a 3D piece of fruit such as a pear, an apple or a bunch of cherries!

Whatever you wish to try, we will guide you from start to fruition… excuse the pun!

  • [ TESTIMONIAL ]

"Tom is an outstanding and passionate tradesman, and kept us all on form throughout the day, with an encyclopedic knowledge on drystone walling and a real ability to engage and demonstrate with each of us at all levels. Arthur was an excellent host and also very engaged in our whole Newt / dry stone walling experience. The Oak tree venue next to the cafe was a perfect setting, and also allowed other visitors to get a glimpse of the Newt life as they passed by. The coffee supply was greatly appreciated and the picnic food was outstanding"
